Amulet: Battus Polydamas Psittacus
Iron, MDF, cotton fabric, oil, acrylic, ink, starch, glue, steel rings, screw eye, braided cotton, and synthetic dye.
2025

If in 2025 charms have become visible signs of identity and affection, this work takes up the symbolic function of the amulet and renders it collective. Inspired by the Battus polydamas psittacus, an endemic butterfly that turns the toxicity of its food into a chemical shield, the piece magnifies this lepidopteran into an oversized pendant-amulet. In doing so, it transforms the intimate experience of protection and self-definition into a shared object, capable of resonating with those who recognize in its biological trajectory a metaphor for resistance, transformation, and belonging.
