The Most Tender Revenge
La Chispita, Mexico City
May 11 - June 1, 2024

“Facing the question, ‘What would be the artifacts left by magic?’ we are presented with a retreat of history through, not discoveries, but findings. In the face of grand archaeological and anthropological practices—often fascinating but with a tendency toward homogenization—we navigate the magical archaeology proposed by these works. A series of gestures to excavate a history, to find remnants, and to propose the reconstruction of a world that never saw the light. (...)

In The Most Tender Revenge, Javiera creates a series of works that have ways of being perceived, requiring movement and distance; they appear and disappear. They are composed of other things. They are flashes that shine and radiate to reveal themselves. It is the eye that must be fine-tuned to see what has always been there. In this way, a genealogy and a history emerge that we can only touch upon superficially, where nothing is entirely true. One cannot touch the shadow; the thing itself is safeguarded.”
